Choice of intervals for table[edit]

I don't think it makes sense to compare the 141.18 cent 2-step interval in 17ET with the diatonic semitone in the table...the difference of +29.45 cents is too big for such a small interval, to claim that this tuning matches that interval in any meaningful way. On the other hand, it's a better match (−9.46 cents) for the lesser undecimal neutral second (150.64). This interval is relevant to the history of this tuning system's use in arab music, as arab music makes frequent use of neutral seconds. The same interval also appears in 34 equal temperament, which has a close match (−5.85 cents) for the diatonic semitone, as an 3-step interval...another argument that this tuning does not really contain a diatonic semitone in any meaningful way.

I think if the diatonic semitone is going to be mentioned in this page it should be in the prose, noting that the tuning doesn't really match it. Cazort (talk) 17:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
